Myrtyl came to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on 5/14/26 after their owner moved away and left them behind. Originally from Missouri, Myrtyl is an Ornate Box Turtle, a species that is protected in Wisconsin.
Because of the legal protections surrounding this species, any potential adopter must have the proper licensing or permits required by their state.

• Placement only to a breeding program, zoo, sanctuary, or other bona fide educational facility
• Proper licensing/documentation required where applicable
Ornate box turtles are a long-lived native species that require specialized care, proper outdoor space when appropriate, and experienced keepers familiar with protected reptiles.
Our goal is to find Myrtyl a safe, permanent placement where they can receive expert care for the rest of their life.
