Old Greg the Fancy Ball Python

Old Greg the Fancy Ball Python

Hello! 🐍 I’m Old Greg, the Fancy Ball Python! I arrived at JRAAR on 9/7/24 during the Exotic Pet Surrender Event in Platteville, WI. My previous owner labeled me as a Banana Black Pastel, Pastel Lesser male, so I’ve got some unique and beautiful coloring!

I’m currently eating pre-killed medium rats and have no trouble at feeding time.

Ball Python Care Tips
(Python regius)

  • Enclosure Size: A 40-gallon tank or larger is perfect for Old Greg, with a securely fitted lid to prevent any adventurous escapes.
  • Temperature & Humidity: Maintain a temperature gradient of 80-85°F in the enclosure with a basking area at 88-92°F. Humidity should be around 50-60%, slightly higher during shedding.
  • Diet: Old Greg eats pre-killed medium rats, and adults typically need feeding once every 1-2 weeks depending on their size and activity level.
  • Substrate: Suitable substrates include aspen, cypress mulch, or coconut husk. Keep the habitat clean with regular spot cleaning and full substrate changes as necessary.
  • Hides: Ensure Old Greg has at least two secure hiding spots (one on the warm side and one on the cool side) to help him feel safe and reduce stress.
  • Handling: Ball pythons are usually calm and tolerate handling well, so Old Greg would love some gentle interaction once he’s settled into his new home.
