Belinda and Carlisle fluttered into J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on July 12, 2025, during our Exotic Pet Surrender Event. Their previous owner, who originally purchased them from Petco, had recently gotten a dog—and the new pup just wouldn’t leave the birds alone. For everyone’s safety, Belinda and Carlisle needed a fresh start.
 
At around 4–5 years old, this colorful duo still has many years ahead and would love a safe, stable home where they can chirp, sing, and play without worry. 💚💙
 
🔍 Parakeet (Budgie) Quick Care Info:
📏 Size: 6–8 inches long
📅 Lifespan: 7–15 years
🎵 Personality: Social, playful, vocal—thrive best in pairs or groups
🏠 Cage Size: Minimum 18” x 18” x 24” for a pair (bigger is always better!)
🪵 Enrichment: Provide swings, ladders, perches of varying sizes, and shreddable toys
🌞 Lighting: Natural daylight or full-spectrum UV lighting recommended
🍽️ Diet:
– Staple: High-quality pellet mix
– Fresh foods: Leafy greens, carrots, broccoli, bell peppers, apple (no seeds)
– Seeds & millet: Best as treats, not the main diet
💧 Water: Fresh water changed daily
