Eve came to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on July 5, 2025, after their previous owner—who had purchased them from PetSmart—could no longer afford their care. At about 5 years old and 3 feet long, Eve is a healthy adult ball python who’s currently eating frozen/thawed medium rats with a solid feeding response. 🐀❄️
 
🔍 Ball Python Quick Care Info (from ReptiFiles):
📏 Adult Size: 3–5 feet
📅 Lifespan: 30+ years with proper care
💤 Temperament: Typically shy but calm and easy to handle
🏠 Enclosure Size: Minimum 4’L x 2’W x 2’H (120 gallons)
🌡️ Temps:
– Basking surface: 95–104°F
– Warm hide: 86–90°F
– Cool hide: 72–80°F
💧 Humidity: 45–75% (higher during shed cycles)
💡 Lighting: UVB not required, but low-level UVB is highly recommended for long-term health
🛏️ Substrate: Moisture-retentive soil mix (Reptisoil, Eco Earth, or soil/sand blend) topped with leaf litter
🌿 Décor: Provide at least two hides, cork bark, branches, and foliage—ball pythons enjoy exploring and even climbing
🍽️ Diet: Whole frozen/thawed prey
– Currently eating medium rats
– Offer prey about 1–1.5x the width of the snake’s thickest part
– Adults typically eat every 14–21 days
💧 Water: Large bowl of fresh water daily—big enough for soaking
