🐍✨ Hermione the Ball Python is Ready for a Second Chance! ✨🐍
 
Hermione arrived at J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on June 20, 2025, after her previous owner—who had rescued her from a friend—found her too difficult to handle. Described as “unhandleable,” Hermione was clearly just misunderstood. 💛
 
Since coming into our care, she’s been making amazing progress—still a little shy, but warming up to gentle handling. At about 2 feet long and estimated to be around 10 years old, she’s currently eating pre-killed small rats like a pro!
 
🔍 Ball Python Quick Care Info (based on ReptiFiles guidelines):
📏 Adult Size: 3–5 feet
📅 Lifespan: Up to 30+ years
💤 Temperament: Calm, shy, and typically slow-moving—great for patient handlers
🏠 Enclosure Size: Minimum 4’ x 2’ x 2’ (120 gallons)
🌡️ Temperature Gradient:
– Basking surface: 95–104°F
– Warm hide: 86–90°F
– Cool hide: 72–80°F
💧 Humidity: 45–75%, with the highest humidity in the cool hide
💡 Lighting: Not required, but UVB is highly recommended (Arcadia Forest 6% or ReptiSun 5.0 T5 HO, placed correctly)
🛏️ Substrate: Moisture-retentive soil mix or Reptichip; topped with leaf litter and optional sphagnum moss
🌿 Décor: At least 2 hides, climbing branches, and foliage—ball pythons do climb and explore!
🍽️ Diet: Whole frozen/thawed prey
– Currently eating prekilled small rats
– Ideally offered every 14–21 days at her size
– Feed prey that’s no wider than 1.5x the thickest part of her body
🥄 Supplements: Optional, but occasional light dusting of prey with calcium + multivitamin (e.g., Arcadia EarthPro-A or Repashy Calcium Plus LoD) can help maintain nutritional balance
💧 Water: Large, clean water bowl—big enough to soak in if she chooses

 
Hermione may have had a rough start, but with a little time, space, and the right environment, she’ll be a fantastic companion for a keeper who respects her pace. 🖤
