Jack Skellington the Hermann’s Tortoise
Jack came to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue at the Exotic Pet Surrender Event in Platteville on 10/4/25 because his owner, who originally got him from PetSmart, could no longer care for him.
He LOVES spring greens and spends much of his day exploring, basking, and munching away. Hermann’s tortoises are friendly, curious, and make wonderful companions for patient keepers who can give them space to roam and a proper setup.
🌞 Ideal habitat: Spacious indoor or outdoor tortoise table or pen with UVB lighting and a basking area around 95°F.
🏠 Substrate: A mix of soil and sand 4–6” deep for burrowing.
🥬 Diet: Leafy greens like dandelion, endive, and collard greens, with calcium and vitamin supplements.
💧 Humidity: Moderate (40–70%), with a moist hide to prevent dehydration.
☀️ Lighting: 12 hours of UVB and bright light daily for good health.
