Lupe the African Lungfish
🌊🐟 Meet Lupe the African Lungfish! 🐟🌊
Lupe came to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on July 26, 2025 because they weren’t getting along with their tankmates. Now this fascinating, prehistoric-looking fish is ready for a new home!
African Lungfish are one of the most unique freshwater species, known for their ability to breathe air and even survive droughts by burrowing into mud and entering a dormant state called aestivation. They can live 20+ years in captivity—so adopting Lupe is truly a long-term commitment!
✨ Quick Care Facts for African Lungfish (Protopterus annectens annectens):

🏠 Tank Size: Minimum 210 gallons (6’ x 2.5’ x 2.5’ recommended)

Lupe is a one-of-a-kind rescue looking for a dedicated aquarist who can provide the massive tank, secure setup, and long-term care they need.
