This unique little crustacean arrived at J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on August 19, 2025, from a distributor who deemed them “not perfect enough” for a pet shop. But here at JRAAR, we know every animal deserves a chance at a loving home—and this Moon Crab is no exception! 💜
 
🔍 Moon Crab Quick Care Info:
📏 Adult Size: 2–4 inches across the shell
📅 Lifespan: 5–10 years with proper care
💤 Temperament: Semi-terrestrial, shy but active at night
🏝️ Habitat:
– Minimum 20-gallon long tank for one (larger for multiple)
– Substrate: 6–8” of moist sand/soil mix for burrowing
– Freshwater & saltwater bowls (dechlorinated)—both are required
– Plenty of hiding spots: cork bark, driftwood, rocks
🌡️ Temps: 75–85°F
💧 Humidity: 70–85%
🍽️ Diet: Omnivore
– Fresh fruits and veggies (banana, apple, carrot, leafy greens)
– Protein: shrimp, fish, bloodworms, or high-quality crab pellets
– Cuttlebone for calcium and shell health
 
💡 Care Tips:
– Moon crabs are escape artists—secure lid required
– Best kept alone or in very large habitats with multiple hides
– UVB lighting is beneficial for shell and overall health
 
This little crab may not have made the “pet shop cut,” but they’re perfectly lovable and fascinating. With their vibrant colors and quirky behaviors, Moon Crabs make incredible pets for keepers ready to provide the right setup. 🌙🦀
