Hello everyone! I’m a Red-Tailed Shark. I came to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on June 18th, 2024, because my owners were moving and couldn’t take me with them.

About Me: I am a Red-Tailed Shark, known for my striking black body and bright red tail. I am a popular freshwater aquarium fish that adds a vibrant touch to any tank.

Care Tips for Red-Tailed Sharks:

🏠 Housing: I need a tank of at least 55 gallons to accommodate my active nature and territorial behavior.

🌡️ Temperature: Maintain a water temperature of 72-79°F.

💧 Water Quality: Keep the water clean and well-filtered. Regular water changes are essential to maintain high water quality.

🌿 Habitat: Provide plenty of hiding spots with rocks, caves, and plants. This helps reduce stress and mimic my natural environment.

🍽️ Diet: I am omnivorous and enjoy a varied diet of high-quality flake or pellet food, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and vegetable matter.

🐠 Tank Mates: I can be territorial, especially with other fish that have a similar appearance. Ideal tank mates include larger, non-aggressive fish. Avoid other bottom-dwellers and fish with similar coloration.

🧼 Cleaning: Keep my tank clean by removing waste promptly and performing regular water changes. Clean the filter and decorations to prevent any buildup of harmful substances.

Lifespan: With proper care, Red-Tailed Sharks can live up to 5-8 years in captivity.
