Sherbert came to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on 4/21/26 after their owner, who originally got them at PetSmart, felt they weren't the right fit for young children. Now Sherbert is looking for a forever home with someone who understands these energetic little pets.
 
Gerbils are curious, active animals that love to dig, tunnel, and explore. They spend much of their day building burrows, chewing on safe toys, and investigating everything around them. Watching their natural behaviors is part of what makes them such fun companions!
 
🟢 Quick Care Tips:
• Lifespan: 3–5 years
• Tank: At least a 20-gallon long with a secure mesh lid
• Bedding: 8–10 inches deep for digging and tunneling
• Diet: Quality gerbil food, hay, and occasional fresh vegetables
• Plenty of chew toys are needed to keep their teeth healthy
• Exercise wheel with a solid running surface
 
Gerbils are gentle pets, but they are quick and can be easily startled. They usually do best with older children and adults who can handle them calmly and patiently.
