Skylar arrived at J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on July 2, 2025, after his previous owner could no longer care for him. At 7 years old, Skylar is a seasoned gecko with plenty of life left to live!
 
📸 (Pictured mid-shed) – shedding is a normal and healthy process for leopard geckos.
 
Skylar isn’t too keen on being handled, but he LOVES the attention of being fed by tongs. Watching him zoom in on his meal is always a joy!
 
🔍 Leopard Gecko Quick Care Info (from ReptiFiles):
📏 Adult Size: 7–10 inches
📅 Lifespan: 15–20+ years with good care
💤 Temperament: Gentle, hardy, and easy to care for
🏠 Enclosure Size: At least 36”L x 18”W x 18”H
🌡️ Temps:
– Basking surface: 94–97°F
– Warm hide: 90–92°F
– Cool side: 70–77°F
💧 Humidity: 30–40% on average; 70–80% in a humid hide for shedding
💡 Lighting: Low-level UVB recommended (Arcadia ShadeDweller or Zoo Med Reptisun 5.0 T5)
🛏️ Substrate: Naturalistic soil/sand blend, tile, or paper towel (avoid loose dry sand)
🌿 Décor: Hides on both warm & cool sides, rocks, logs, and climbing areas for enrichment
🍽️ Diet: Insectivore
– Staples: crickets, dubia roaches, mealworms, BSFL
– Treats: hornworms, waxworms (in moderation)
– Dust feeders with calcium & multivitamins
 
Skylar may not want lots of handling, but he’s a healthy, active gecko who thrives on tong-feeding and interaction at mealtime. With the right setup, he’ll make a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys a more watch-and-feed reptile. 💛
