Hello! I’m Sweet Pea the Black and White Tegu. I came to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on July 2nd, 2024, because my owner, who got me from a relative, couldn’t handle my antics as I am quite the escape artist.

Care Tips for Black and White Tegus:
🏠 Enclosure: I need a spacious enclosure with plenty of room to roam. A large terrarium with secure locking mechanisms is ideal since I am known to be an escape artist.
🌡️ Temperature: Maintain a temperature gradient in my enclosure with a basking spot of 95-100°F and a cooler area around 75-85°F. Nighttime temperatures can drop to 70-75°F.
💧 Humidity: Ensure a humidity level of 60-80% in my enclosure. Provide a water dish large enough for me to soak in and mist the enclosure regularly.
🍽️ Diet: I thrive on a varied diet of high-protein foods like eggs, lean meats, insects, and a small portion of fruits and vegetables.
🪶 Enrichment: Provide me with logs, rocks, and hiding spots to explore and bask on. Interactive toys and foraging activities keep me mentally stimulated.
🌿 Environment: Keep my living area clean by regularly changing substrate and cleaning food and water dishes.
Lifespan: With proper care, Black and White Tegus can live up to 15-20 years.
